3.20GHz Intel Pentium 4 HT (540 ) Ultra ATA/100, 100 GB Seagate ide, ATI Mobility Radeon X600, 128 mb dedicated card, 2 gb DDR 133 ,dual channel,17.0" WXGA TFT.USB/PCMCIA.
Installation media: Kalyway 10.5.2.
The installation was simply a matter of inserting the disc into the optical drive and turning on the comp.
The" Press F8 key " appeared, I entered -s -x and pressed the enter key.
Lines of type scrolled through until they stopped with the line "press any key ".
More scrolling lines. Screen paused three times during install. Approx two minutes later the "Installing X" screen appeared.
Selected "Utilities " Partitioned the drive. Backed out and pressed the "continue" button.
Selected the drive to install , then selected "options ". Went through the options that I thought applicable and then installed.( I selected the Radeon option for my video..)
All went as per usual except after the install completed and the disc was removed the comp booted and the "Welcome" music could be heard but no video just a grey screen.
I went through the install again only this time I chose to leave the "Radeon " out.
Comp booted into the Welcome screen and from there it was a normal setup.
Items not working:
Network.. Wired ( now working )No Wireless.. Tried again, Belkin F5D9050c and Zydas 1211b.
Screen res is 1024 x 768 should be 1440 x 900. Now fixed.
The CPU with HT is only seen as 1 CPU by sysprof, but is seen as two inside. where as in Windows or Linux its seen as two.
I am currently trying to get a Zydas 1211b USB adapter to work,( mac driver on disc that came with the adapter) but as yet can only get it to see some of the networks around me, it doesn't see my network. After looking around it would appear it has to be installed through the Terminal which for the life of me I cannot find any instructions .( NB. This won't install on my Mac either ).
I also tried a Belkin USB adapter F5D9050c ver:4001.de. which has a Mac 10.3 and 10.4 driver but it won't work .( This works on my Mac).
Opinion: The boot up is very fast, much faster than my Desktop Sl 10.6.8 and playing with it, it's very slick. This install was no more than an experiment, which in my opinion thanks to the people who made it possible was a success.
Re the no video , grey screen. I didn't bother trying any switches i.e uw/ etc.. I felt trying a complete install sans the Radeon served me better.
