That works for Intel cpus, but not for AMD.
For AMD do the 10.6.8 comboupdate, let it finish, but don't reboot. Install legacy_kernel.10.6.8.pkg. Let it finish, THEN reboot.
Asus M4A78 mb, AMD Athlon II 250, ATI Radeon HD 4350 graphics, 2gig memory, both EIDE and SATA harddrives. And USB drives. All bootable.
OSx86 10.6.8 with bootloader installed by Chameleon Wizard. X86_64
OSx86 10.7.5 with newest bootloader installed by Chameleon Wizard. X86_64

Why do I need to backup "IOUSBFamily.kext" and "IOUSBMasstroageClass.kext", if i just put "AppleACPIPlatform.kext" and "IOPCIFamily.kext" back to the original folder?

by backup we mean move it to an easy to find directory, because it will get over written when you update stuff.
Then if/when they cause a kernel panic you can replace them to their original positions so you can boot up.
