    Thumbs up Asus P5B with AD1988A onboard sound problems

    Hey everybody I am new here and I am desperately hoping somebody can help me, I have used my Hackintosh machine for the last 4 years or so, I just recently had issues with my Snow Leopard install, so I decided to give Lion a go on my machine.

    My question is not a new one, but for the last 4 years I have been searching for a solution to my onboard sound card AD1988A from Soundmax. I have googled and googled till the cows come home, but to no avail.

    Is there somebody that could just help me get this card to be recognized natively in my Lion install? See my Specs below, any help would be eternally appreciated, Cheers, Plucka

    My sgnature:
    MOBO AsusP5B E2831.
    Dualcore intel pentium E 2140 1.66ghz overclocked to 2.16ghz.
    SATA DVD burner NEC Optiarc.
    Palit 240 GT 1024mb PCI-E QE & CI working, using WallyFTW's guide DVI out to HDMI in Samsung LCD TV Maximum Res. 1360 x 768.
    1x WD SATA 160 gig drive for Snow Leopard. 1x SATA Samsung 160gig Test Snow Leopard install, cloned with Carbon Copy cloner and 1x SATA Samsung 160gig for Vista/XP Dual Boot.
    1 x IDE ATA WD 80gig, used exclusively for iTunes.
    Onboard sound Soundmax ADI AD1988A, not working natively, output only HDA audio working with Mistico's P5B Deluxe driver.
    Realtek networkcard/Buffalo PCI wireless card (Broadcom chipset) seen as 3rd party Airport card working without drivers.
    4gigs DDR2 Ram All USB ports working in 10.6.5 test install using MaLDon DSDT patch.

    Dude ...

    I think a native solution for your chip does not exist ...

    Only VoodooHDA ...

    But have you ever tried to use the kexts AD1988B??

    Some people say it works ...

    Thank you for your reply, I am sorry I should of mentioned that I have tried voodooHDA 2.7.2 and every other boot I get a kernel panic and the sound is distorted. The preference pane for voodoo only shows me 4 HDMI outputs and gives me no control over any of its functions.

    I tried AD1988B kext fix, no dice, and I found a patch for an ASUS P5K AD1988B sound card, same story, no dice. I did have a package that works in SL, from Maphisto but that wont work in Lion either.

    I really would like to somehow get this going, I wonder what other people have done in regards to this particular card?

    Thanks again for your answer, cheers mate, Plucka

    Thanks for your reply mate, how did you get it going in SL? If you don't mind me asking? I could never get it to be seen natively. Would you mind explaining it to me, I would be most grateful to you for it.

    Looking forward to your reply, cheers mate, Plucka

    ADI Leopard driver & ALC - InsanelyMac Forum
    AD1988_P5K.pkg.zip
    With VoodooHD (I don't remember what exactly version) all works fine in Sl. I tried many different version kexts in Lion with patched DSDT but it don't works.

    Hey JoBlack,

    Thank you very much for the links, I have already tried the P5k package, which didn't work, but the other package I am not so sure about. I will give it a go on the SL install. Do you think that there is a way to get it to work in Lion? Maybe someone reading this may have a tip for us? You never know. Cheers mate, Plucka

    If you don't have DTGP method in your DSDT then put it:

                    If (LEqual (Arg0, Buffer (0x10)

                                    }, Arg4)
                                Return (One)

                            If (LEqual (Arg2, One))

                                Return (One)
                            }
                        }
                    }

                    Store (Buffer (One)
                        {
                            0x00
                        }, Arg4)
                    Return (Zero)
                }
    I put it into dsdt file and my soundcard became detected in System Info.
    Also I installed http://www.kexts.com/view/1428-apple...b_lion_gm.html
    Unfortunately no sounds.
    Maybe if replaced id_developer and id_vendor to our card then it would be work, but I don't know what excectly I must replace.

    Thanks mate, I will try this in SL, would be really cool to have native sound working, I appreciate all the effort you took to answer me. In the mean time I will keep searching for a Lion fix, I have sound out working, but only in 32 bit mode, voodooHDA just makes my install kernel panic with every other boot.

    Once again thank you very much for your code and explanation, cheers, mate, Plucka
