Default [GUIDE] Installing ATI Radeon HD4350 Graphics Card on Mac OS X lion

I had almost spent about a week to get my Graphics Card ATI Radeon HD4350 on Mac OS X Lion. There were a few links which I checked on insanelymac, hackintosh as well as tonymac's site but all were failing. Hence, I started the hit and trial method which seemed to be the last option for me before I completely gave up.

Anyway, below you will find the guide that worked for me.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Please for the love of god, take a complete backup of your important data. If possible create a spare partion of your working OS X Lion and then clone it. Please don't ask me how to clone your Mac. I'm sure you will be able to find a lot of tutorials on the internet. However for cloning I personally prefer CCC which stands for 'Carbon Copy Cloner'

I have also attached the files that worked for me, which you can download below:
EDIT: RE-UPLOADED THE FILE BELOW, THERE WAS A KEXT MISSING IN EARLIER ZIP FILE... THNX TO @pixelsblur WAS ABLE TO CORRECT IT NOW... YOU CAN DOWNLOAD THE NEW ATTACHMENT BELOW:
    Attachment 1296

EDIT: DELETED THE PREVIOUS ATTACHMENT ABOVE, RE-ATTACHED/RE-UPLOADED THE ABOVE ZIP FILE, ONLY FILENAME CHANGED, REST IS THE SAME. SOME PEOPLE WERE FACING ISSUES DOWNLOADING THE ABOVE FILE. YOU CAN DOWNLOAD THE RE-ATTACHED/RE-UPLOADED FILES BELOW:

    RE-ATTACHED-ATIRadeonHD4350KextsNEW(AlexMathayes).zip

    NOW let's begin.

    1. Shutdown and Install the Graphics Card ATI Radeon HD4350 and boot

NOTE: Boot with normal mode. If the normal mode doesn't work then boot into safe mode. And if safe mode also doesn't work, then remove the card and continue with the steps below. I however, did not have to boot in safe mode, I just booted in normal mode with my Graphics card already installed.

    2. Open the EVOenabler and ATY_init folder, Open Applications folder in a seperate window. Select both the files in EVOenabler and ATY_init folder and drag them over to 'Kext Utility' found in the Applications folder in order to install them automatically with permissions also being repaired automatically.

    3. Open ATI4350 folder and copy paste the file to Extra/Extensions folder.
    4. Open the Controllers folder and again Applications folder opened in a seperate window, select all the files from Controllers foler and drag them over to 'Kext Utility' in order to install them automatically with permissions also being repaired automatically.
    5. Open 'Kext utility' again by double clicking it, type your password and let it repair the permissions automatically.

NOTE: It's better to run the 'Kext Utility' last time just to be on a safe side that the permissions gets repaired. Although you are repairing the permissions each time you drag the kexts to 'Kext Utility'.

    6. Restart and at the bootloader, boot with -v. You should see ATI4600Controller might not load (Thats normal), you should also see ATY_Init with card 0x- and random few numbers, this indicates that the installation was successfull.

VERY IMPORTANT NOTE: I had a very tough time installing this card and had almost given up. But I beleive in 'try, try... untill you succeed' hence in case the above procedure does not work and after installing the card you get a BLANK GREY SCREEN with just a big arrow, you can then perform the extra step 7 (Which I had to do since, I was getting a BLANK GREY SCREEN with a big mouse pointer).

    7. (THIS STEP IS ONLY FOR PEOPLE WHO GET A BLANK GREY SCREEN) When performing the 2nd Step from above, Open the EVOenabler and ATY_init folder and ONLY SELECT ATY_Init.kext and drag it over 'Kext Utility' in order to install it.

Thats it, your Graphics card should be recognized as 'ATI Radeon HD 4600' when you open the System Information. Hope the instructions were easy to follow. I have only tested this procedure with the DVI Cable connected hence, I would not be able to comment on the VGA method, I'm sorry. ALL THE VERY BEST.

nice guide Alex, im considering buying a new graphics card for my machine since im not getting any QC/CI support with my nVidia 6150SE nForce 430 card.

I have two questions, 1) is will this work for Snow Leopard? and 2) I saw this one on ebay, it's a "Gigabyte ATI Radeon HD 4350" (GVR4350C512I) GDDR2 512MB is this the right one?

    thanks.

I'm not entirely sure about how it will work with Snow Leopard but, This certainly worked with the latest Lion released through mac App Store. BTW, just so you know that there's a new Lion 10.7.1 update released recently and I did however updated to it and didn't have to do anything else apart from updating ofcourse to 10.7.1 and the same drivers worked for me. Hence, if you are looking for an awesome OS, then OS X Lion 10.7 should be your preferred choice.

You can try the above method with Snow Leopard.... But, thats something I would not gaurentee whether it'l work or not cause honestly I havent tried with Snow Leopard.

Regarding your question for "Gigabyte ATI Radeon HD 4350" I think its the same card only this one will be from Gigabyte and mine was from Sapphire (Sapphire ATI Radeon HD4350).

You are most welcome to try the above method and do let me know the results... I hope it all works out for you.

thanks for the immediate response... I actually cannot update to Lion with this specific machine, it is an AMD processor and unfortunately there is no support for Lion on this processor, I will however install Lion on the Dell 15R I recently purchased, just waiting for it to arrive.

@beatzz which OS are you running?

Anyway you can try with Snow Leopard and the method above...You might actually succeed. BUT, create a clone of your working mac before doing so.... so that you don't lose anything. ALL THE VERY BEST MATE

Alright so this is what i got:

I've tried to install this on My hackintosh, Hazard 10.6.2.
Now, I know, "Update to 10.6.8", but I cant with the processor i have. I swapped out the kexts from the radeon 4350 folder with the ones from another thread that had the same filenames so i guess it was the same, and I did the same process. Now, I start up my hackintosh installation and it works just fine until i get to the GUI and then thats where it all goes down the drain. Half the screen is pixely and half is just random lines. This is confirmed out of both of the DVI AND HDMI ports, (The HDMI port has a HDMI -> DVI Dongle, So i dont know if that counts.)
For now, I can boot up at the bootloader and fully boot with "-x" So, im probably going to go from there and try again with another guide. Thanks for the time and effort for this guide, and im looking forward for when AMD Processors are supported with LION so that i can try this once more.

    Thanks.

Hey Vengence, I'm on the same boat as you with AMD processor (except I used the AMD Guide http://www.kexts.com/desktops/9746-g...-10-6-amd.html) and have had no luck upgrading to 10.6.8 either only up to 10.6.6, I did however come across some info where I've learned that the 10.6.8 is a bit tricky and unstable for AMD (not impossible, just requires other things) but it does also mention that upgrading to 10.6.7 from 10.6.6 is possible with the right legacy_kernel, anyway (read here HAZARD 10.6.6i - Hackintosh Snow Leopard 10.6.7 (Intel & AMD) - Mecho Download), I didn't mean to get off topic, I just wanted to pass this info to you. good luck.

Thanks pixels! I'll take a look at what you linked and get back to you guys as soon as possible with the updates and, when i get to 10.6.6 (Which i tried this morning just through software update, FAILED, Don't do it) I will attempt again to get this card to work. But i'm having trouble right now getting there with my 10.6.2 HAZARD Installation. I currently have the 10.6.6i Installed to a disk but I cannot get it to boot up into the installer due to a "Still Waiting For Root Device" Error. I don't know why this is happening because I have a SATA DVD drive and a SATA HDD. Anyway, I'll have a look and get back to you guys. Thanks again Pixels
