Lots of components will work fine with OSX, but some are off limits.
Best check your hardware with System Info or something similar, to find out what will work.
I found Nawcom or iBoot most useful as bootloaders.
Folks may help you more easily, if you choose to provide some detailed info about the desired system.
Support requests by PM will remain unanswered, sorry.

Thanks for the reply. The board is an asus p5ne-sli, the processor is an Intel quad core
The graphix card is a nvidia 8600GT and 4gb ram. Not sure what else you would need to know.

Frankly, I never set up a Hacki with NVIDIA nForce® 650i SLI, Marvell 88E1116 PHY and Realtek ALC883.
Looks like a fine 775 board, give it a try, HLC says it works: HCL 10.6.8 - OSx86
Can you use a seperate SATA drive for OSX or are you going to discard the Windy stuff anyway?

To become used to the subject, you might read AppliArt´s guide.
Just disregard the part about AMD legacy kernels.

The basic setup is always the same.
Nawcom´s CD is here: Nawcom OSX ModCD - Downloads - OSx86.net

iBoot and Multibeast from tonymacx86`s site should be fine for Snow Leo.
Tonymac´s is a first choice site for Intel Hackis too. Actually I set up my first Hacki with tonymac´s help.
Later, you might also try Unibeast from tonymacx86`s site to install Lion, if you dont care for backward
    compatibility with PPC software.
