    Default Unable to update firmware

I have an EFiX V1 that I want to update to the latest firmware. simple i think to myself, open the prefPane and just click update. "unable to connect to update server". hmmm OK, maybe on the windows side.... "unable to connect to update server" shit. well maybe if i reset the firmware first 0.0.0, "unable to connect to update server. double shit.

OK so is there ANY way to update the firmware on my device (i would settle to get back to where i was, i'm not picky) when i cannot connect to the update server? is there a magic trick i'm missing? a proxy i have to jump through? a rain dance perhaps?

i have other machines that i can use to set up my own local server if need be, just supply me with the rest and tell me what to do.

    thanks
    a

I was having similar problems last week. Control Center 4.7 was not connecting. When I updated to Control Center 4.8 I was able to connect.

    Give it a try.

Also, you said you reset your firmware to 0.0.0 - make sure you don't restart your computer when its 0.0.0 - it won't restart. Had to learn this the hard way.

i was trying under 4.8, and under updater 1.1 (windows), hopefully the windows client will connect at some point, or the efix is gonna be even more of a paper weight than it already is

For your sake I hope so, but I definitely wouldn't be counting on it. As mentioned in numerous places around this site (and briefly on the EFi-X support forums until it was found and deleted) - the windows update was essentially a plagiarized codebase and was removed. As with anything coming out of this company... who really knows. It might grab an update tomorrow, it might grab one next month, it might never get one again - period.

Your impatience screwed you here (not pointing fingers - you undoubtedly figured that if you paid that much money for a device that supposedly was so 'well engineered' - that the company behind the device would also be 'well engineered'). There have been many others in your situation - my best advice (assuming that you don't just want to skip it and go with a non-EFiX install) is to send it back to the vendor for repair/replacement.

They can reflash it there. On the other hand, if you have a friend with an EFiX box, it might be possible to hot-swap EFiX modules once booted into OSX - and then run the updater from there. (I would caution against this - especially with a 1.0 module due to the lack of protection also mentioned elsewhere) - but in theory it might be possible.

As a side note: I've got one of the very early modules (I think #46 or something like that) so I've been through more than my share of updates. I've never (yep NEVER) been able to update within the first 2 weeks of when an update was announced. I would read on the forums that some people had updated, but I always got the 'unable to connect...' message when I tried. I have a real mac for the times when I need OSX in 'production ready' state, so I would just try once a day for a few weeks until I eventually would get a connection and get the update. Think of doing EFiX firmware updates just like motherboard firmware updates... in other words... unless something is totally broken and you know the update will fix it... then it's better left alone.

thanks digicide. yeah i figured i was screwing myself with the reset, but i do have a friend with a unit as well, so i wan't that concerned, and honestly i didnt pay for it. that same friend ordered one, and when it took so long to arrive (back in the days of efixusa) complained and they sent another (my first sign of the mismanagement) so worst case scenario is that i flash it on his machine, no biggie. just annoying.
