If you have full QE/Ci you should run Final Cut without problems. Can you play dvd's, or play Chess.app?

If that is ok, you can try to delete NetworkInterfaces.plist in /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/ and after restart to add new interface. Or, edit that .plist so that in BSD Name key, should be en0:

Check anyway if that en0 is in there.

Also, make sure Final Cut is in Applications folder.

    Try that, for now

the plist is that of what you've shown, i can play chess though its buggy and i can play video however the screen is black and i have no sound. the sound however is my fault having changed the hd a while back with the battery in! rookie mistake made long time ago. no one knows how to fix it without replacing the motherboard..

Even earphone jack doesn't work. it is annoying but im not ready to strip it down until i have a back up machine.
the old G5 just doesnt cut it!

Minimum graphic memory for Final Cut 7 is 256 MB... You have only 64 MB... That's your problem!

x3100 should have more than 64MB of VRAM. How did you enable graphics on your laptop?

Maybe you could try with this and see if there is any difference:
