    Default Frustrated EFiX User

Hey guys, I just found this forum today. I am a "former" EFiX user. My EFiX died on me last month (what a shocker!) and I've been too lazy to get it replaced. This month, I got banned from the Official EFiX forums without warning. I have been a contributor there for over a year. It's a shame that ASEM is such a terrible company when dealing with their customers.

After reading that EFiX V1 will not support Snow Leopard, I decided to throw in the towel w/ Art Studios.

Right now, I have Leopard installed with no way to access it. This month, it was revealed that EFiX is simply Chameleon w/ a few other things attached. ASEM doesn't use their own code. I'm not sure if this is true, but it doesn't change my stance on using EFiX in the future, regardless.

I come to this forum with hope of getting my OSX install functioning again. I have never attempted to load my own kexts or delve into the Hackintosh world. I have a fully compatible Gigabyte DS3R EFiX machine. I want to run Snow Leopard, but I'm trying to find out if it's as stable as Leopard (w/ Hackintosh). Anyone have any suggestions? I have a USB drive ready to go, I am using Windows Vista and I have an iMac in the other room. There's a lot of different guides out there and I'm trying to get on the right track. If anyone has any suggestions on my situation, I'd love to hear them. Thanks for reading.

Hello and congratulations on finding this forum, which is the answer to all your prayers

You'll find it very straightforward to create a USB stick which will boot up your current Leopard installation. Snow Leopard is currently more of a challenge but in honesty, 10.5.8 is not exactly a *bad* platform to make do with in the meantime!

Check out some of the sticky guides for installing chameleon, you'll have it working in 30 minutes.

Flic's method is probably best place to start and develop things from there

Sweet. I'll work on it. I'm not going to lie. I have never touched kexts etc and am a complete noob when it comes to the Hackintosh community. Hopefully I can get good advice here when I get stuck. Guides are great, but sometimes I have issues following everything.

Alright, so I am using flic's guide to install. A few issues so far that I'm a little confused with.

#1 - It says to change the Default Partition. What do I need to enter for that value?

#2 - The guide states to change the last 12 digits to my MAC address. Where do I input the MAC address?

#3 - For the heck of it, I tried to boot w/ Chameleon to see what would happen. I get an endless spinning Apple logo. Eventually, a "null" circle pops up covering the Apple logo. What does that mean?

    Thanks in advance!

    New Sig .

Enabled ACHI. Got Leopard to boot.

    - No Audio. Placed VoodooHDA.kext in my Extra folder.
    - Graphics is software, didn't recognize my 9800GT.
    - Does not restart properly. Endless spinning progress circle when I try to reboot.
    - Do I need to use ACHI? My Vista install blue screens w/ ACHI enabled. I'll have to reinstall the OS if ACHI has to be enabled with Chameleon. If it's possible to boot without ACHI, how so?

AHCI can be enabled in Vista with a regedit. No need to reinstall vista.

Good to know. I would still prefer to disable ACHI because of the longer boot time. Does it need to be enabled?

Try out the new Gigabyte BIOS'es. Still Beta, but working for for me. This will give you a new AHCI BIOS Version 1.20 with almost no additional delay in boot time then using AHCI.
