    Default Time Machine UUID problems

First, thanks to Richie and everyone else for getting me this far. I am running great with the exception of Time Machine.

I have looked through logs and it seems this is becuase I don't have a UUID. I am trying to backup to a USB drive.

I found the UUID generator, and the terminal command to create one, but I am not clear on where to paste it.

My current bootloader is from the LifeHacker guide. I tried the Aesere 1.9 loader, and that gives me a UUID, but no sound.

So, I think I am very close to the perfect system.....

I am not sure if I catch the problem right but creating a UUID is simple. Just follow the instructions below (with all repects to Asere).

    Taken from http://aserebln.blogspot.com/:

You will also need a unique Hardware UUID. Wikipedia has more general info about UUIDs. The easiest way to make a UUID is to use the ethernet mac address of the onboard ethernet port of your mainboard. The Hardware UUID looks like this:

    00000000-1008-1000-8000-001FD02E7359

My ethernet mac address is 00:1f:d0:2e:73:59. Replace the red part with your ethernet mac address.

Configure the UUID you are going to use by modifying the kernel extensions Extra/10.5/Extensions/UUID.kext and Extra/10.6/Extensions/PlatformUUID.kext with right-click with the mouse and select "Show Package Content". Then edit the file Content/Info.plist in each kernel extension. Insert/Replace the UUID for the "key/value" UUID-key (10.5: UUID.kext) and PlatformUUID (10.6: PlatformUUID.kext).

    10.6 PlatformUUID.kext/Content/Info.plist <key>CFBundleIdentifier</key>
    <string>com.superhai.driver.PlatformUUID</string>
    <key>IOClass</key>
    <string>PlatformUUID</string>
    <key>IOMatchCategory</key>
    <string>PlatformUUID</string>
    <key>IOProviderClass</key>
    <string>IOResources</string>
    <key>IOResourceMatch</key>
    <string>IOKit</string>
    <key>PlatformUUID</key>
    <string>00000000-1008-1000-8000-001FD02E7359</string>

Thanks, thats pretty much what I was looking for, but one issue. I don't have those folder locations on my boot stick. I have an extra folder, but I don't have an Extentions folder. I do however have an "Extensions.mkext" in the Extra folder.

Again, I am using the stick that was made by the LifeHacker guide (Magic)

Any suggestions on how to make this work?

I suggest that you use the separate kexts instead of packing them into an mkext. You can unpack them with one of the tools found in the Tips and Tools section...

    CPU: Intel E6750 2.67GHz C2D

    RAM: 4GB G.Skill 1066MHz DDR2
    HDs: SATA-2; using IcyDock sled
    Gfx: ASUS GeForce GT 220/1GB
    Cinebench R10 OpenGL=5822
    DVD1: LG 18X SATA
    DVD2: Toshiba/Samsung 18X SATA
    LAN: en(0) - On-board Realtek 8168C
    en(1) - TP_Link TG-3269 gigabit PCI card, woob
    Wi-Fi: NewerTech USB 2.0 g/b adapter, driver

I ended up just taking the kexts out of the mkext package (thanks richieM) an placing them inside the Asere Installer bootdisk.

I couldn't figure out how to make a kext from scratch, so I copied one, then added the UUID code from the post above.

Working like a charm! I now have full audio, time machine, everything.

Again, thanks to you guys, very helpful.
