    UPDATE:

OK, so looks like the Chameleon RC2 installer was at fault. Tested with RC1 and all good. Still doesn't see Audio without adding kexts though. The patched DSDT is supposed to negate the audio kexts correct?

Thanks again for this Mike. Will have to get a PayPal addy off you once I sort SL out.

Upon further testing, I don't thin it is the DSDT.

I placed the DSDT in the original patchstick I created with Flic's method, and it works fine. Still no audio, but that can be resolved via a kext.

It keeps kernel panicking anytime I try to create a new USB boot stick. Tried with 2 other thumbdrives, and same thing - with or without DSDT.

I have absolutely no idea whats going on. When I made the original one a couple of weeks ago, it worked fist time. Proceeded to do it a few more times to get the nag of it - no issues.

The only difference is the one that works is a 32Mb USB1 stick, the others are 4Gb and 16Gb USB2 drives.

    Very weird.....

shadow, you might try upgrading OSX to 10.5.7 or 10.5.8 and see if that helps. I know Apple changed something that involved the dsdt in 10.5.6.

    Really? Interesting.

I can't update the 10.5.5 partition unfortunately as I need it to continue functioning as is. The reason I don't want to go higher is because of some issues with some of the music software I use. 10.5.5 seems to be the most stable atm.

OT, am I the only one that can't install Chameleon via Terminal? I am a 100% complete NOOB when it comes to Terminal. This is why I went with Flic's method. Got it sorted without a Terminal entry.

But now, trying to update/install RC3 via Terminal - I don't know what I'm doing wrong, but followed it to the letter and it does nothing. Is there some sort of command you're supposed to type before you quit Terminal to make it work?

As you can see, totally retarded when it comes to the Terminal aspect of OS X.

Maybe I need an entire thread dedicated to my stupidity.

    Hey Mike,

I've been a lurker on InsanelyMac and InfiniteMac for a while, and I've been able to glean enough info to get Leopard to run on my Dell XPS M1530 laptop off of an external USB drive. Only thing I've never been able to get working properly is sound, and video is kind of buggy.

I'm looking to move on up to Snow Leopard, and I'm using the opportunity to brush up on my OSx86 knowledge, and trying to run as Vanilla as possible. Of course, a large part of that is tuning the DSDT, and hence your thread popped up in a Google search.

I'm going to be sending you a PM later with the info you requested to get your help with my DSDT, but I have a few questions:
    1. Do you prefer the raw DSDT that is on the BIOS, or would you want one with some fixes already performed and specified?
    2. In the same way that running a DSDT dump will result in the output containing the fixes already loaded by Chameleon, is this also something that will affect the IORegistryExplorer dump? If so, do you advise booting without a DSDT.aml to obtain clean IORegistryExplorer output?
    3. Are you solely applying the fixes provided by koalala's DSDT patcher, or doing additional patching by hand?
      • The reason I ask is that for some reason, koalala's patcher does not apply any fixes to my raw DSDT, beyond the HPET fix. I've decompiled the AMLs it outputs, performed diffs, and aside from the compile dates, no graphics/audio fixes are actually performed.

Regardless, I really appreciate what you're doing here, and I look forward to actually learning from what you're doing, rather than just asking for a favour. Teach a man to fish, as they say...

I'm afraid I won't be able to help much in getting your Dell patched and running. This forum is for people who formerly used EFi-X, and because of that most of us are using very similar hardware - specifically, desktops with Gigabyte mainboards. I wouldn't know where to begin with your Dell laptop, sorry.

My apologies, I misunderstood the scope of the forum, but the info I'm finding is useful nonetheless!

    Hi Mike,

I have been working on my DSDT for a few weeks now and I am not 100% sure I am getting it right. I am also leaving out the video b/c from what I am understand Chameleon handles that automatically? Let me know how to proceed... i'm looking to get SL up and running. Inside the zip is everything from IOREG, etc. its all clearly marked whats what...

    THANKS!

Hey everyone, sorry for the delay if you're in the queue to get a patched DSDT.

Due to a family illness, other things are requiring a lot of my attention right now. Rest assured that I will get around to helping everyone I can, but it's going to take a little longer than promised.

    Thanks for understanding.
