Exclamation Proper CPU temps for i5-3570k?

Not sure if this is the right place, if not, Mods please move to desired location.

I am worried about my CPU temps. At idle, according to HW Monitor the temp reading is around 40c. I say around because I get different readings on each core with a variance of about 5-7c. When converting a bluray rip from MKV to MP4 using Handbrake, the readings are around 65-70c. This has me worried that it is pretty high. Am I correct to be worried? Converting stuff like this is one of the main uses for this machine so I want to make sure that I don't damage something.

    Oh, specs are in order:
    Supercase MJ-16 mATX case
    Gigabyte GA-Z68MA-D2h-B3
    Core i5-3570k (stock cooler)
    8gb 1600mhz ram
    Crucial M4 64gb SSD
    WD 1tb storage drive

I am wondering if getting a Arctic Freezer Pro or something might be a good investment. Please chime in with your thoughts. Thanks!

No problem at all. The CPU will shutdown if approaching more than 95 degrees to stop itself from destruction.
A stock cooler with 100% load will usually be 80°C. Depends on room temps.

I always use a cheap cooler to keep the temps a little lower.
My 2600K is idle 29°C and on 100% load ±65-75°C.

Thanks for the response Rene! I'll have to do a lot of research into a new cooler because of my mATX case, but I think that is definitely something that I will need to invest in.

Another question. I am using HW Monitor and it shows all 4 core temps (which vary about 5c per core) and a heatsink temp etc. Here is a screenshot of HW Monitor during the 3 hour Handbrake session:

    Handbrake temps.jpg

What exactly should I be concerning myself with? The heatsink temp was WAY lower than the core temps so I am wondering if I don't have a good connection between the heatsink and the cpu. Also, I did find out that Fan0 is the CPU fan and after the encode was done it dropped from over 1700 down to around 1200. I was concerned there for a while that the CPU fan was not ramping up like it should but apparently it was. Thanks again!

As I said, no problem at all. It's normal. Don't ask me why but in all these years never saw that all temps of the cores are the same. The CPU gets the hottest and gives the temp to the CPU Heatsink which gives it to the CPU cooler.

    Here's a screenshot from my GA-P35C-DS3R Intel Pentium E6500:

The i7 pic would be nice. Thanks! Also, my version of HWMonitor doesn't seem to have the preferences option like yours does. I can't seem to find this program anywhere on the interwebz to see if I have an older version or what...

Thanks for the link to the Project x86 post. I've seen it before in other rummaging around, but I noticed they had the kext posted for Ivy Bridge CPUs so I added that and now I have the proper CPU reading with HWMonitor. You've been a big help!
