    Default network problems

    My latitude 13 has the following network cards:
    Ethernet card Broadcom Corporation NetXtreme BCM5761e
    Wireless card: Intel Corporation Wireless WiFi Link 5100

    I didn't find anything to have at last one working. Without network the OS is not usable... (for my pourpose).

    Any Idea?

    Thank you
    M.

    Intel Corporation Wireless WiFi Link 5100 no driver replace the card only cost like 10 buck inc shipping from ebay
    Ethernet card Broadcom Corporation NetXtreme BCM5761e did you try adding your device ID to the broadcom kext?

    in /System/Library/Extensions
    there is a file called IOnetworkingfamily copy it to your desktop top so you can edit it
    then right click it show contents find the plug ins folder there should be a broadcom file there applebcm5701 kext again sou contents
    there should be a info.plist file open that file with text (osx variant of note pad)
    scroll down until you see this :

    <key>IONameMatch</key>
    <array>
    <string>pci14e4,1659</string>
    <string>pci14e4,166A</string>
    <string>pci14e4,1684</string>
    <string>pci14e4,16b4</string>
    <string>pci14e4,1680</string> <------------ ad your hardware ID here! you nead this line i edit it for you
    </array>
    <key>IOProviderClass</key>
    ad your device id and save the file . reinstall the kext via a program kextbeast or some thing else

    should look like this

    <string>pci14e4,1680</string>

    Default 14e4,1680

    I have the same 14e4,1680. I don't have a broadcom entry in s/l/e/ionetworkingfamily.kext/contents/plugins. I added the <string>14e4,1680</string> to appleBCM5751Ethernet.kext before installing. I used Kextbeast and kext utility to do the install and permissions repair. I reboot and am able to see the nic under system preferences but have the 00:00: MAC. I tried running "sudo ifconfig en1 ether aa:bb:cc:dd:ee:ff" and got the error network down.(I used en1 because en0 is my working wifi adapter. I want to get the wired nic working as well.) What am I missing. I have read there is a way to use hexfiend to manually edit the MAC address but have no clue where to begin. Im running snow leopard 10.6.7 on a Dell E5500 and on a Dell Studio 1737. Both have the same nextreme broadcom 57XX and the same identical problem.
