I've got mine up and running using this tutorial, except the Ethernet.

First time I installed following step for step, the touchpad didn't work. 2nd reinstall and it worked fine.

To get the sound to work I had to go into the Sound Preferences, and into the Output tab and change it to Analog Speakers (from HDMI Digital Out)

I get a message saying the Ethernet kext was installed improperly when I copy/paste it into S/L/E.

I also tried to install it with the Kext utility thing like the other kexts, and that didnt work either.

Any ideas? I have the exact same HW as the OP, with 4GB instead of 8GB ram.

Ok so.. I got Ethernet working after trying all day.

Had to go under System Preferences -> Network.

Then I had to click APPLY. Nothing changed. But once I hit apply it said it detected an ethernet card.

    Weird.

Also, in regards to sound, The sound works , but I just noticed the volume doesnt actually change when I press the keys on the laptop. I have to manually change the volume in the app.

    Hi Hans, I'm back again

So I was wondering, has anyone with a HP 8440p upgraded to 10.7.4? If so, what were your experiences. I am considering updating but I'm just wondering if anyone else has done so by now...

    Hi Navrit,

Mine is updated to 10.7.4 and works fine. All is up to date.
While I'm not using it extensively, the boot log shows no complaints or issues.

I have played around with sound and am now using VoodooHDA version 2.7.2.
Up and down buttons work, but not the Mute button, same as before.
I think this is down one version from the 2.7.3 which I think was included in the zip file I posted.

    Good luck.

Hi Hans, I'll be upgrading to 10.7.4 in that case. But before that, I'll try the older VoodooHDA kext as it seems the volume doesn't change. Thanks and I'll I'll keep you updated!

Well I've upgraded to 10.7.4 and I am pleased to say that I have no problems now apart from the volume keys not working, not exactly a big deal but they worked on previous installations so I know they can work. Any suggestions for that?

EDIT : I've solved the problem with this solution : http://tonymacx86.com/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=28608

The slider hasn't worked in any of the 10.7 versions for me.

Tried this solution which I think is basically the same as the previous post by noname?

I have VooDooHDA 2.7.3 so not sure whether this is the issue, link indicates 2.6 onwards?
