MacBook 4,1 OSX 10.6.3
For EeePC 1001HA, 1005HA, 1008HA and similar Netbooks
Actually I had put "OSX on Eee PC" to rest, but as there is some writing about it in the forums,
here is one possible way to do it:
So what will be needed?
CD/DVD USB drive
Nawcom´s Mod CD:
Nawcom OSX ModCD - Downloads - OSx86.net
1005HA/1008HA Snow Leopard KIT:
http://maceee.blogspot.com/2010/02/s...w-leopard.html
1008HA Snow Leopard KIT - Minus
Kext Wizard:
Kext Wizard - very good utility for kexts - Downloads - OSx86.net
STA_RT2860D-1.2.2.0UI-3.0.0.0_2010_05_18:
Ralink-A MEDIATEK COMPANY
STA_RT2860D-1.2.2.0UI-3.0.0.0_2010_05_18.dmg - Minus
and of course a Snow Leopard retail CD from the Apple Store.
Press F2 on the Eee and set SATA to AHCI mode. Set your boot order so that the DVD USB is in the first place.
Insert the Nawcom CD and boot from it.
Most of your Eee hardware is recognized correctly. As Atom support was dropped with vainly kernels higher than 10.6.1, the legacy kernel is used by default. During boot a key has to be pressed once, everything else is done (almost) automatically.
When the bootscreen with the old phone in the middle shows up, eject the nawcom CD, and insert your retail DVD. Let the drive come to rest and press F5. Some modules are loaded and patched on the fly, Finally the OSX installer is loaded.
Select your language and confirm.
From main menu choose Disk Utility and select your Eee´s HDD, partition it with one partition, HFS Extended. From Options, choose GUID and give your drive a nice name.
Quit DU and select your new drive in the installer.
Click on Options and select Rosetta and Quicktime7 if you want backward compatibility.
Check RTC fix and Sleepenabler too if needed.
Confirm settings and start installation.
Go away and do something else. :-)
When the welcome music of the invisible video starts, its time to proceed.
After the usual Apple quest, you should reach the desktop.
HD boot, card reader, trackpad, microphone, speakers, ethernet and a 800x600 serene should work now.
If you got a disturbing hiss from the speakers, go to Preferences, VoodooHDA and drag the "Input Gain" ruler to the left.
To enable QE/CI, open Kext Wizard and install two kexts from the 1005HA/1008HA Snow Leopard Kit, stored in S/L/E to S/L/E:
AppleIntelGMA950
AppleIntelIntegratedFramebuffer
When done, repair permissions with Kext Wizard.
Restart
If you got Ralink WLAN, open the Ralink driver package and install CardbusPCIWireless-10.5, the 10.5 driver will work with SL 32bit, kind of.
If you got Atheros WLAN try to make use of this:
http://nawcom.com/osx86/files/10.6/Wireless/Atheros/
or this:
http://www.osx86.net/view/1225-io802...5b97_wifi.html
Now add the details for your AP and open Preferences, Network. Your new connection should be set up automatically.
Restart
To have some hotkeys working, install AsusHotkey.kext from the Coop Da Ville package
Apple, iPhone and iPad Forums | ModMyi.com
Asus Hotkeys - Downloads - OSx86.net
That way brightness and sleep should work now.
If you want to have it my way, open Preferences, Energy saving and set the computer´s saving mode to never, as the Eee may go to coma instead of sleep.
You can upgrade to 10.6.6 without issues, when using the combo update from Apple and the 10.6.6 legacy kernel. Be sure to install the legacy kernel before letting your Eee restart.
After the upgrade, you will have to re-install the video drivers and the VoodooPS2.
Of course a USB mouse is needed to do just that.
This is, what your "About this Mac" should look like:
All in all a nice 32bit environment, enough for surfing, mailing, text editing and simple games. XBench rates it with about 45, 200 would be a usual score for a decent 64 bit dual core.Hardware-Übersicht:

Quite useful is your EeeBook with SheepShaver. The emulated cpu in full screen is somewhat slower than a PowerBook 2400c/180. If you could not spare $3500 for a PB in 1997, for you can enjoy your memories now for $250. :-)
Cut down Microphone hiss VoodooHDA: (Tip by Alex15948)
Locate VoodooHDA.kext in S/L/E, right click on it and choose open package.
From the Contents folder, open the Info.plist with TextEdit.
Look for this:
Change "90" to "00" and save your changes. Noise from speakers should be fixed.<key>iGain</key>
<string>90</string>
<key>iMix</key>
<string>0</string>
Another possibility to get rid of the hissing noise is installing the old VoodooHDA and prefs pane from the 1005HA package.
If you have a running OSX 10.5 or higher already, you might find it easier to create a boot stick and install with nawcom´s Mod USB. OSX86 ModUSB — nawcom's bitchblog
All credits go to the authors of the various hacks of course: nawcom, meklort, netkas and the others. You are the x86 heroes! Typos and other mistakes are done by myself.![]()
