Hello Hackintosh Community!
Well, I am writing this thread to help and also receive some advices in some problems that I had while Hackintoshing an Acer aspire 5742G notebook.
Tell you that my Lion 10.7 GM installation resulted an 90% Total success, I Installed Lion in a MBR partition. First I tried installing and do it Dualboot with Windows 7. But the Microsoft OS just didn't want to install over the GPT disk format, this made me pass really hard times. I think this was because I don't have EFI support, at least i suppose that, if I am wrong please correct me. Well, I finally made it dual boot with Windows 7 in a MBR partition. Ill describe how I did this further. With this technic you won´t need any extra MBR patches to install OSx, this will work in any System or Mobo, so you´ll be able to learn this trick (not difficult).
My specs are the Following.-
-Acer Aspire 5742G
*Intel Core(TM) i3 CPU 370M @ 2.40GHz
*4 gb Ram 1333 Mhz DDR 3
*ATI Radeon HD 5470M 512 MB
*Audio Realtek ALC272 @ Intel Ibex Peak PCH - High Definition
*Wireless Adapter Atheros AR5B97
*Ethernet Controller Broadcom57780 Gigabit
*I upgraded my Bios to Isyde c. 1.27 before installing any OS
-Preparing for installing Lion 10.x.x in a MBR partition with the ability to Dual boot or Multiboot.
Things you will need:
-Bootloader Chameleon-2.1svn-r1839 (Install this first in another pen drive if you want)
-an external drive or Memory stick 8 gb or higher for the Lion OS
-Lion 10.7 installer (You can use iatkos)
*Lion 10.7.3 update package
-Windows 7 installer
-Usb Mouse and Keyboard
-VGA external Monitor (use your VGA computer Monitor)
*Wireless and Ethernet…..
-I uploaded the Kexts (can´t remember where I downloaded them from :S) But download it here:
Wireless and Ethernet
Should work with your Original Ati kexts but you can download and replace them with the ones that James uploaded + some modifications in the Boot.plist. (I used James Kexts and replaced the originals)
[FULLY Working] ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5470 - Downloads - OSx86.net
The video gave me lots of problem, and even though now it recognizes the 512 Mb giving me image in the internal and VGA display I have no QE/IC in 10.7. You have to use the EDID Method described here. And obligatory update to 10.7.3 for full QE/IC. You can download the 10.7.3 update entering here:
OS X Lion Update 10.7.3 (Client Combo)
You will have to download SwitchResX to patch.
I used Multibeast VoodooHDA 0.2.7.3 but i still have the Mic always on problem. Willing to solve this so if you have any ideas I will be really thankful.
works 100% with AppleACPIPlatform.kext and voodoo. You can download them here:
Thanks to Artur-pt for the upload.
restart and shut down works perfectly, but sleep crashes the System.
First partition your main drive in 2, for example I partitioned my drive in 3 parts , one of 200 gb for the final MAC os Lion installation, the other one of 50 gb for Windows 7 OS and finally 150 gb For windows OS software, I did this because Windows runs faster when the system has the minimum files on main disk. (Its better to install all Windows software in a different partition from the OS Main disk).
Once you have your partitions you can start. Make Sure you backed up all your Windows data if you already had this OS installed. You can use a Disk Cloner, you can search this in Google. (e.x.Clone NTFS disk on Windows).
2.-Partition the Drive where you are going to Install Lion OS to GUID (Flash Usb, or external Drive, not MBR main disk yet). Install Lion using the best way for you in this drive. (I used the xMove method to install, search for xMove in TonyMacx86)
note.-Leave your computer Main disk in MBR format.
3.-Once the installation is finished you will be able to Complete your Information and enter to the Lion OS (Remember to have your Disk Bios configuration in AHCI not IDE).
Trackpad and laptop keyboard will not work at this point so do it with your external USB Keyboard and Mouse, USB is working out of the box. At this point install your Chameleon boot loader to another pen drive or to your External Drive where you are installing OSX, don't install it to your internal drive!
4.- Install Trackpad+Keyboard and Repair permissions with Disk utility, now you can reboot from your Guid partition, after this Trackpad and keyboard should be working
5.-Before installing another thing, install your 10.7.3 update first and then reboot
6.- first we want to make our ATI Mobility work, this is kind of tricky but its possible.
-Replace your System/Library/Extesions/ kexts with the ones you`ve downloaded from James installing them with Kext Utility and modify your apple.boot.plist or org.chameleon.Boot.plist with this before rebooting:
If everything went well, you won't have image in your Internal notebook display when entering to Lion OS, so connect your monitor to your VGA notebook output and reboot. Working with your VGA monitor you will see that you have your ATI card working with full QE/IC. Now what you have to do is to enable your internal display.
To do this I used the guide of CharredPC, credits goes to him. You will need SwitchResX to see what plist or file the display is using, you can get this info correctly with SwitchResX. You will also need the correct EDID info of the monitor or LCD you are using. You can use any EDID info extractor to do this and patch the plist that the display is using with the correct data. Look for EDID editors on google and follow the steps that CharredPC shared here Fixing Scrambled,Stretched, or Wrong Resolution Laptop Display Problems - InsanelyMac Forum
This is a brief explanation how I understood how to do this. If you have a Aspire 5742G and want to to it directly try the Red Marked text below if not check the blue text.
After you finished the steps mentioned above.
Just download the EDID file I uploaded here and replace the file DisplayProductID-717 located on /System/Library/Displays/Overrides/DisplayVendorID-756e6b6e with the patched DisplayProductID-717 you´ve downloaded.
If you did everything correctly you will have the internal display enabled with full QE/IC working. Aleluyah! 4 Real, That`s glory to YAH! check this out here
----) If you have the 5742G and want to finish the install go down *Back to the aspire
Other Mobos and Notebooks
*Once you have your display info (EDID) extracted on a text file, you have to change some values on the current plist file that the computer is using for the display. The SwitchResX program will tell you which is the file in use. Once you have the name go to /System/Library/Displays/Overrides and you'll find a folder with the name of the display showed on SwitchResX.
Open the plist file in use and replace the values with the ones you have in the EDID file you extracted as follows:
-copy the Raw Data and replace it with the IODisplayEdid info.
*Notice you have to do this in groups of 8 digits and one space.
Example raw data (native edid info as extracted).-
0x00 00 FF FF FF FF FF FF 00 30 E4 50 02 00 00 00 00
0x10 00 14 01 03 80 23 13 78 0A C2 D5 9C 60 55 9E 26
0x20 19 50 54 00 00 00 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01
0x30 01 01 01 01 01 01 3E 1C 56 A0 50 00 16 30 30 20
0x40 35 00 59 C2 10 00 00 19 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00
0x50 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 FE 00 4C
0x60 47 20 44 69 73 70 6C 61 79 0A 20 20 00 00 00 FE
0x70 00 4C 50 31 35 36 57 48 32 2D 54 4C 45 41 00 FD
Copy the first line without the 0x00 and instead of a 2 digit group make an 8 digits groups as follows.
0x00 00 FF FF FF FF FF FF 00 30 E4 50 02 00 00 00 00
would look like this ----) 00FFFFFF FFFFFF00 30E45002 00000000
do this with all the lines exluding the 0x** with the same logic.
It will look like this:
00FFFFFF FFFFFF00 30E45002 00000000 00140103 80231378 0AC2D59C 60559E26 19505400 00000101 01010101 01010101 01010101 01013E1C 56A05000 16303020 350059C2 10000019 00000000 00000000 00000000 00000000 00000000 00FE004C 47204469 73706C61 790A2020 000000FE 004C5031 35365748 322D544C 454100FD
Also replace the Product ID (from your extracted Edid info) with the DisplayProductID in your plist file.
*If you want you can change the DisplayProductName in your plist file. I changed it to Internal LCD Forced EDID as CharredPC taught, its better to do this to be 100% sure this worked after doing this by seeing the DisplayInfo in about this MAC. If this worked you should see the name you entered there.
*Back to the Aspire
-Till here you should have System Installed, Usb´s working, Trackpad+Keyboard working, CD/DVD working and the most important a Fully ATI Radeon HD 5470 working with QE/IC!
*For Wireless and Ethernet
Install the attached Kexts in this post
*For sound install VoodooHDA 0.2.7.3 (mic is always on!)
and for the battery use the files that Artur-pt uploaded. (the link is above)
Okey! Now you are running MacOs Lion 10.7.3 on a Guid external drive! What we want is to Run it on a MBR Internal drive to Dual or Multiboot. Here is the trick. Once you finished with all the steps or you are happy with the OSx installation you`ve got, just clone your External Guid Partition to an Internal MBR partition deleting all the existing files on the internal partition, set your Bios config to AHCI. *Recommend you to clone with Carbon Copy Cloner. As simple as that!
Wala! Now you have a 90% Hackintosh! I say 90% becouse sleep does not work and the sound system has the Mic always on problem. But you have a Fully Notebook running Lion OS ready to work great!
*If you have the Hybernation problem go to your chameleon utility in System Preferences and activate the Wake Image box in the Advance Menu and enter an none existing path, like /Library/Dictionaries/none or any other.
I am leaving you the string I added in my boot.plist if this helps for any other problem.
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd">
<string>-f npci=0x2000 darkwake=0</string>
I used for the SMBios MACPRO 3,1
Once you have your Lion OS installed in the Internal drive in MBR mode, don´t install the Chameleon boot loader there, install Windows on any partition as it is, whenever you what to use MAC just use your pen drive or SD card with chameleon bootloder! its better to have a permanent SD card formatted to boatload with chameleon. Set your Bios to boot from the SD or pen drive with the bootloader.
My external drive is divided in 7, each partition has 10 gb space, One partition has the Mac Os Lion Installer, the other ones are for the Lion Installed OS, You can try different settings in each partition to always have a backup and don´t have to be reinstalling Lion OS everytime. I used carbon Copy Cloner, For me is one of the best Drive cloners for mac. (Search on google, its free and very effective.)
Hope this Helps! I am not a Pro at this, but if you have this Mobo and need some help at a point, i´ll be glad to help if I can, or else someone here will do it! Community works!
Peace In Jesus Christ of Nazareth! Glory to Him! Check this out!
