Default System profiler info modify? (OS X 10.6.5)

I hate to be the n00b posting helpless questions in the forum but I'm afraid that's what I'm doing. I am new to Hackintoshing (although I am picking it up fast) and Mac's in general so please bear with me here lol. I have pretty much everything working on my Aspire and now am really just working on the aesthetics. Pretty much the only thing left that bugs me is in the System Profiler where under Model Name it says "MacBook" and under Model Identifier it says "MacBook4,1". I would like to change Model Name to "Acer Aspire" and Model Identifier to "5810TZ". And I have found a couple forum postings about how to modify it, however when I tried I could not change anything. Then I went and looked at the bottom of /System/Library/SystemProfiler/SPPlatformReporter.spreporter/Contents/Resources/English.lproj/Localizable.strings and it said

"As of SnowLeopard new models are not added in SPPlatformReporter. Instead they come from CoreTypes via LaunchServices. Existing models are supplied directly by CoreTypes whereas unreleased models are provided by the CPUSWMachineTypes bundle that gets placed inside CoreTypes in the cpusw build train. [6812545] ".

Does this mean that editing is not possible anymore or do I have to edit something different? I really do appreciate any help

Gonna have to use an smbios. Do some reading on how to edit your smbios.plist.
But depending on what you put it MIGHT hinder your performance... Slow it down. Make a backup of your current smbios.

Ah hah! Yes, that did it. I was able to change the Model Identifier value, however the Model Name defaulted to "Mac" but it is better than it was so I'm happy lol. I haven't noticed any performance differences, and the only other thing it messed with were the Time Machine and trackpad settings. It's good enough for me! Thank you very much!
