Hi guys, i apologise if this is in the wrong section but im getting impatient with this whole installing snow leopard thing.

Currently my system specs that i would like snow leopard on are the following:

System: Netbook
Intel Atom 1.6GHz processor
1GB RAM
160GB Internal Hard Disk
Means of installation: iPortable Snow.

Problem:

I am running OSX 5.5 from my Internal HDD at the moment and have 2 8GB USB's on standby to try install iPortable Snow but its not going well, i get as far as running CopycatX and then i cant restore, the little start button just wont light up and let me press it, any ideas why? Heres what i\'ve tried and its FAILED. Copy iportable DMG to internal hard drive, mounted, and ran CopycatX from Internal HDD applications folder, selected External HDD and then selected Restore, FAILED> Start button cannot be pressed. Same goes if i select any volume at all, no matter what device the iPortable dmg is mounted from, i cannot get passed that screen. Any help would be appreciated.

-Thanks in advance.

PS: If theres an easier way to install snow leopard then i would love to hear it.

Currently tried and failed methods:

Method above.

Using backup of retail Snow leopard DVD from a friend and netbookmaker, just results in system going "Insert correct boot media and press any key to restart"

Think I know what the problem is. There's a little bug in iPortableSnow with CopyCatX. You're doing nothing wrong.

Look in
/Library/Applications Support/SubRosaSoft

Does the map contains the files:
SDuplicator
SFileExtract
SFileExtractTypes
SHFSPlus
SRecover
SShred
?

If so I can help you.

But . . . take a look at: EmpireEFI

Download Empire EFI v1.085 for Intel Atom , Intel Core i7 9xx series , Intel Core 2 series , Intel Core series (contains both Empire EFI v1.085 and LegacyEmpireEFI v1.085)

You will also need a "Snow Leopard RETAIL" or the "Snow Leopard RETAIL.dmg"

iMike can give you very good support on this one.

Safe mode doesnt work, same occurs, im in single user mode in the Extensions folder and need a way to delete the IONetworkingFamilyFix.Kext

As for the retail Snow leopard DMG file, i wont be able to contact my friend for a while because he has a retail snow leopard disk so im still looking for a solution to this iPortable issue. But after my new issue is solved :(

In Terminal you can type:
rm IONetworkingFamilyFix.Kext
if you are inside the Extension folder.

Never done this myself, but should work to remove the file. But if it would be of help?

rm: IONetworkingFamily.kext is a directory.

I dont think its removing it. I seriously hope i dont gotta reinstall again, If i do i'll install on external drive and try the copycatx thing you mentioned above.

Wow its just error after error. rmdir: *ERROR* Directory not empty. Im just gonna reinstall via External HDD and try this copycat thing, that way if we can get it working, i can immediately install onto Internal disk. :) So, i'll see if those files are there that you mentioned and then get back to you. Thanks for the help by the way :D

*ERROR* Illegal option -R usage: rmdir -P directory. - Reports same error. Directory not empty.

Cant believe a Snow leopard install issue turned into a iDeneb 5.5 issue. If i cant solve this soon i will just try via an external drive and install to internal if we can get CopycatX to work. :) Will get back to you ASAP.

Alright no problems. As of now installing iDeneb temporarily on external drive to see if we can solve this issue with iPortable. HOWEVER before i try solving it, will any of the following below work?

System: Asus Eee PC 1001HA
Ethernet
Wireless (Railink Mini-PCI)
Sound
Built in webcam
SD Slot
USB functionality
Anything else i missed?

Don't know, but take a look at this link: EeeUser Forum / Mac OS X in Eeepc 1001HA
And google with:
Asus Eee PC 1001HA osx86
so you find what you need.

sudo rm -r /System/Library/Extensions/IONetworkingFamilyFix.Kext
should work.
It will ask for a password, because you are now superuser. So don't mess-up and don't try anything else.
Superusers don't get a question like: Are you sure?
It just do it.

Well i got a bootable USB going...

BUT!

It wont load the install.

Pic of kernel panic below as an attachment, sorry im in a rush and cant upload it to a image host site so its here instead.

EDIT 6: Previous Edits removed.

I'm so dang close! I got safe mod... Blah blah blah.... Booring info on long system bootup.

Total bootup time WAS = 7-9minutes in total with the SystemShutdown: FALSE and non functioning desktop for a few minutes.

Brief edit: Sorry scrap the info above, that long wait was like a "first time boot" the system boots fine now. All i need now is slight help if anyone can bare the time.

Audio Fix: VoodooHDA keeps reverting volume back to ultra-low upon reboot/startup.

Ethernet drivers: I got an Atheros LAN card but every Atheros driver i have tried, even in iDeneb doesnt work, i DID have a working driver before but USB got corrupt and had to format.

Webcam drivers for built in webcam.

Shutdown fix? Upon selecting shutdown the system doesnt shutdown, it only dismounts the HDD and the system remains on at a black screen.

Any other reccomendations/apps you think i might need because im a total newbie to this still.

-Thanks in advance for any help!
