Due to may Dell M1530, which the GPU has burned I was in search for an hackintosh replacement.
This Asus N56VM performs well also after some tweakes and searching the web. I found this website:
http://ukrainianiphone.com/forum/ind...st=20&start=20
Proof:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o70fr8h6zLM&feature=plcp
Which provide all the necessary information about running OSX 10.8.1 ;-) thanks to marklangovoi / M-dudarev who did a lot of research!
My ASUS is running very well, 2hours on full battery!
IMPORTANT; use an MBR harddisk configuration instead of GPT! otherwise the HDD or SSD won't be recognized by the BIOS! use 2 partition by dual boot, first OSX, 2nd Windows 7.
Working:
- Intel HD 4000 Q/E full HD 1920 x 1080
- Wifi with changing the original to an AR9285 half sized card
- Ethernet /S/L/E/IONetworkingFamily.kext/Contents/Plugins/ALXEthernet.kext (http://www.osx86.net/view/3446-ather...-62-71-72.html)
- Bluetooth with Asus usb BT21 dongle (now also use of my Magic mouse) + Airdrop!
- Battery indicator works!
- Sound, speakers, mic, earphones!
- USB 2.0 (usb 3.0 didn't used so far…)
- Function keys (only sound keys; FN + F10,11,12 / ALSO: F5 & F6 Brightness control)
- Trackpad (only cursor, not scrolling with two fingers)
- restart, shutdown
- DVD burner
- SD card reader (working > BIOS > USB configuration > XHCI > Smart auto + override USB drivers)
- Sleep!
- Elan touchpad (http://www.osx86.net/downloads.php?do=file&id=3472)
Not (yet) working:
- Full Nvidia GT630m (to disable: http://www.applelife.ru/threads/nvid...-nvidia.36346/)
- Webcam, only light flashes but doesn't turn on by photo booth
I found also extra information of the ACPI files (for linux):
http://dev.iksaif.net/projects/acpi4asus
http://dev.iksaif.net/issues/242#change-995
Maybe someone can port this project...
Also information about the bios mod to enable discrete GT6xx instead of HD4000
http://www.bios-mods.com/forum/Threa...DY5N27l3VeInhw
Good luck!
Update (18-10-2012):
Just start with this link here is a lot of info to boot with an USB dongle:
http://olarila.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=1627
USB write program:
ftp://ftp.berlios.de/pub/kiwi/ImageWriter.exe
Image for usb :
http://kat.ph/os-x-10-8-mountain-lio...-t6526209.html
Follow the instructions, but replace the files with the one's here above (extra + extensions to replace)
instructions of replacement:
1) replace the current folder Extra with the one extra folder in this zip.
2) copy the extensions to replace in this zip to: /System/Library/Extensions
One of my experience; DON'T use the new BIOS 211 or 214 from asus! version 206 works fine! or flash back with "winflash /nodate"

Thank you mate. I fixed a couple of things with your post on N56VM. Still no internet ( I use phone tethering for now). I work on external drive in GPT and is ok now (I tried installation hundreds times). For the camera on 10.7.4 was working natively, seems that 10.8 doesn' t like the camera anymore. Sometimes I have KP and restart without power supply works perfectly then replug ps and all is fine! ![]() |
