About This File

This procedure make USB3 active on your system if you have ASMEDIA USB3 like ASUS Motherboards (tested on ASUS P8Z68-VPro).

First of all, you must install Windows 7. Next, install U3Setup v1.00.05 package contain drivers for windows and an important firmware update. After that, go to Lion and install the kexts PXHCD.kext and the latest new IOUSBFamily453.4.2.

Enjoy it,

tHEVisitOR.

Yes, sleep work well if you had installed the latest nullcpumanagement.kexts and AFTER you enable p and c states in boot you don't need any others sleep kexts.

How does sleep work?

Just curious as I have the Asus P8Z68-V LX motherboard. Apparently all models of the Asus P8Z68 can use the same DSDT according to people over at Maldon's site. However, I can't get sleep to work on mine, even after installing nullcpu kext and tried using Flaked's speedstepper kext mod.

Grateful if you could let me know.

How did you get sleep to work? I've got a patched dsdt.

I've done as you've said, and updated the Asmedia drivers + firmware via Windows for my P8Z68 V Pro. Now under Lion 10.7.3, I put the IOUSBFamily453.4.2 in and patched the PXHCD.kext but it doesn't work! It sees it in System Information as trio USB Superspeed ports but they don't mount any USB devices. Please help!

Just in case someone runs into the same problem: The "U3Setup V1.00.05.tar" file from this site worked to update the USB3 drivers via windows 7 (x64) but failed on the firmware update (error reporting it could not read firmware from file). I downloaded the file directly from Asus (support site - look under USB) and the firmware update worked.

Works exactly as Chilkoot stated: the update package from this site is bad (the ASMedia ASM1042 firmware is missing); the package from ASUSTek is complete.

I successfully installed the ASUSTek update on my Shuttle SH67 (the ports always worked under Windows 7), and then installed the other two packages mentioned, above, and now BOTH the front AND rear panel USB 3.0 ports work on my Shuttle SH67 under MacOS X 10.7.4.

Before, no USB 3.0 ports would work under MacOS X.

I'm currently running ML. I've applied the usb patch on the windows 7 side where the usb3 works fine.

Tried this kext with my P8Z68-V pro/gen3. Unfortunately I was not able to install iousbfamily.dmg. ML refuses to do so even though gatekeeper is disabled. Tried with other iousbfamily version also, same result. Also Easybeast refused to run usb rollback. Any tricks to try?

The MB has several usb2 ports but as I'm eager to have everyting working I really would like to be able to use on board USB3.

USB3 was non-functional also with my SL and Lion installation. I've tested every possibility I could find googling. Anybody out there with working usb3 and P8Z68-v PRO/GEN3 (bios 3402)?

Hey jrii,

Just got it working. Combined instructions from here: http://legacy.{censored}.com/viewtopic.php?f=54&t=53056

with those here: http://legacy.{censored}.com/viewtopic.php?t=53195

So you need the patched bios from deadMetal's method, the DSDT in this thread here:http://www.{censored}.com/dsdt/61652-asus-p8z68-vpro-gen3-bios-3402-dsdt-request.html for gronko's

Make sure to update the audio and usb drivers in windows too for the firmware updates.

Drop a line if you find you need a hand.

JK

Thanks for assistance kirsta100!

Got usb3 ports now working.

The sleep is broken however. This could be because I did not patch the bios. However deadMetals stated that the sleep was broken also in he's build.

BTW. I also noticed that usb3 ports now work also with MB{censored} 3rd Party to CalDigital Driver.

Also this driver breaks the sleep (wake reason PXSX).
