Description:

  • Repair kexts permissions for system's and Extra folders;
  • Pack kext files to mkext cache file.
  • UnPack mkext cache files.

Note:

The utility uses a modified widely applied fastest method repairing of all (non)standart kexts with little improvements. To all kexts the identical permissions (a little more liberal, than it is necessary) are granted. Though it not 100% satisfies the system's "Disk Utility", however on working capacity of system, to the worst, does not affect.

Note that to run "Disk Utility" when you have enough time is the best way for repair all standart kext.

P.S. Kext Utility does not create the system cache itself, but only activates the system function to create it:

for Lion - kernelcache, for older MAC OS - Extensions.mkext.

For proper boot better use the XPC Uefi booter or wait new Clover Uefi booter.

I'm not sure this is working with the Lion release. I have no problems with 10.6.8, but when booting from Chamelon RC5 r1187, I get several screens indicating that kexts are being loaded from S/L/E. Nor can I locate an Extensions.mkext file in S/L/Caches/com.apple.kext.caches/Startup. Admittedly things may be different in Lion - but the aforementioned issue seems to indicate something isn't working right. I've managed to get nearly everything else working in my Lion install, but this issue is haunting me.
