x4500 with Quartz Extreme/GL backlight fixed 1.0

About This File

Working kexts for intel x4500 with backlight fixed. Kext taken from insanelymac, changed to obtain quartz and fix some bugs.

1. Delete all graphics kext specially x3100 and x3100FB, install this one with kexthelper

2. restart

3. Download XQuartz-2.6.1.dmg, install, reboot

4. Go to finder and type: Quartz Debug ----> Tools--->Enable Quartz Extreme, Enable Quartz GL

*****************************UPDATED*******************************

5. sudo defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.apple.windowserver QuartzGLEnabled -boolean YES

*****************************UPDATED*******************************

6. Youre ready to go !!!

I WAS IN MISTAKE, NOT EVERYTHING WAS ENABLED, IF YOU WANT TO DO SO TYPE IN TERMINAL WHATS IN 5 POSITION IN THIS LIST (BETWEEN TWO ***UPDATED*** SIGNS)

BUT I DO NOT RECOMMEND IT BECAUSE IT WONT INCREASE YOUR PERFORMANCE, IT WILL DECREASE IT. WHY ? GOOGLE IT. ;)

I'VE DONE IT AND EVERYTHING WAS SO LAGGY, WHEN I TRIED TO DISABLE IT I HAD TO REINSTALL MY SYSTEM ;/ SO IF YOU WANT TO DO IT IT WILL BE PERMANENT UNTIL NEXT REINSTALL OF SYSTEM. TAKE IT TO THE CONSIDERATION!!!

OR MAYBE ON YOUR PC IT WILL BE BETTER I DONT KNOW.

AND SOMETHING ABOUT SOME USERS WHO SAYING THAT THIS KEXT DOESNT WORKING. I'VE OBTAINED TO MAKE IT WORKING BY CHANGING THE INVERTER FREQUENCY IN THIS DRIVERS. SO IF IT DOESNT WORKING THEN YOU HAVE TO HAVE OTHER HARDWARE SORRY ;)

Ok next thing, many of you will say 'theres no info about quartz enabled in Hardware Overwiev but trust me its enabled. If you dont believe type:

"Check if Quartz Extreme is enabled:

sudo -s

defaults read /Library/Preferences/com.apple.windowserver GLCompositor

If it is enabled, you should read:

{tileHeight = 256; tileWidth = 256; }"

"Check if Quartz 2D Extreme is enabled:

defaults read /Library/Preferences/com.apple.windowserver Quartz2DExtremeEnabled"

if says : 1 its enabled

Text in the brackets was taken from

If you have some question just write in the comment section below.

Ohh one more thing, this drivers work only on x86 arch, its not compatible with x64 !!!

It works perfect with x4500 2a42. It should work with other versions like 4500HD but you must try. Please write in comments if it works you will help others to decide if its worthy or not ;p I have tested this drivers on 10.6.3 and 10.6.6. I'm sure it should work with other version too. If its not working on your card just try to add your ID of your device. How to make it? Google its almost on every forum ;)

have a nice day all

ok the simplest way , if you cannot find quartz debug you can enable quartz via terminal :

sudo -s

defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.apple.windowserver GLCompositor -dict tileHeight -int 256 tileWidth -int 256

defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.apple.windowserver Quartz2DExtremeEnabled 1

Hi,

I have done all the steps and I don't see any Quartz Extreme enabled. Yes, the terminal says so, but the OS graphical effects are the same (as in BAD). The brightness control is still not working.

I have Mac OS X 10.6.7.
