Haswell & Ivy Bridge kernel for Snow Leopard 10.6 1.0

1 Screenshot

About This File

The first and to my knowledge the only kernel for Ivy Bridge processors and Snow Leopard.

For the moment it is only for test. If it works I think to do a CD to install snow leopard. I know that already Mountain Lion went out but as I there are persons who have programs that alone work in Snow Leopard for this reason I did this kernel.

For the moment you need a hard disk that has the version 10.6.8 pre-installed and only change the kernel and say to me if it works.

All this work is based on work nawcom, qoopz and kaitek.

10.6.8 new patch.zip is the source code

sorry for my english

Update: The wait finally end, I bring out the boot cd to install snow leopard on Ivy Bridge processor. Please try it and let me know, I can not try because I do not have ivy bridge anymore.

blackmail, This kernel is only for Ivy Bridge processor, but might run on Atom processors.

It will not work on Pentium 4 processors.

here's the thing I have a cedarview intel atom processor the "N2100" -it's off-road- and this kernel seems like the only one working for me, BUT it stuks at "ACPI_SMC_PlatformPlugin::Start - waitforservice(resourceMatching(AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement) Timed Out DSMOS has arrived." , wen I try to install snow leopard on it. I've never got this this far with other kernels; it was just rebooting after reading some hfs+ files over and over again. Can someone please help????!!!!! Thanks in advance and sorry for my english.

Author Thanks!! for this Kernel. this kernel allowed me to install OSX 10.6.3 from a custom Usb Install on a New Xeon Ivy Bridge. I have updated to 10.6.8 and still working good.

cheers.

Hi stinga11,

Could this kernel be used on genuine Mac that are "Lion only"? Let say newest MacBook Pro with Retina or 2012 MacBook Air/Pro lineup.

I know that I would certainly need kext for the GPU and other component, but the kernel is the most important thing, kext are easier to find, an even if they don't exist you can at least use the computer with limited capablities in the worst case scenario.

Lion is such a piece of crap. Apple is leading OS X straight into a wall. It's like Vista.

mnale,

Install SL on another machine then move that hdd. Replace the old kernel with this one then repair permissions on that hd and then move the hd over to the ivy bridge machine. I haven't tried it but this is what I gather on how to do this. I will though be doing this tomorrow or Friday and will report back...

Hi, and thanks to stinga11! I built a hackintosh for my recording studio and I missed the information that Ivi Bridge does not work with Snow leopard. I need the leopard to run my pro tools 9. Could you please help on how to install the kernel on the preinstalled snow leopard. Is there a guide ?Or where can i get the info on how to? I can install the snow leopard from another hackintosh, but its the fist time i hear about changing the kernel. Well, thanks for your suggestions. Regards!!

Hello and thank you for your work Stinga11! I have used the BootCD.iso and successfully upgraded to 10.6.8 from a fresh install of SL retail. Does the BootCD.iso have a bootloader in it? I can only boot from the CD and not the HDD. How can I load a bootloader so I can boot from HDD? Sorry for the newbie questions but new to this. Thanks anyone for your help!

@muteki808

Use Chimera 11.1.1; put the new patched mach_kernel in the rootdirectory.

I'm fine with i3 3225 running 10.6.8 (DVI HD4000 without Quartz/CE).

Works in my home as internal server only.

For more you have to put a diskrete graphics adapter in.

Ok so if I have a working SnoLeo 10.6.8 installation on a Sandy Bridge system and everything like sleep, power management etc. works on that system would it then work exactly on the Ivy Bridge System after I install the new kernel and repair disk permissions etc. then swap the Hard drive to the Ivy Bridge system?

@inogeick: Pls, look here:

http://www.{censored}.com/snow-leopard-desktop-guides/78960-install-mac-os-x-10-6-snow-leopard-ivy-bridge-based-pcs.html

PM (sleep,..)won't work.

For full app-support you need a fully supported graphics card. (some ATI,Nvidia) Otherwise some apps; depending on Core-technology are not fully supported. As long as you try to make use of IvyBridgeGraphics (in my case HD4000) you are limited to VESA modes. But it's OK for a internet browser station or a machine serving as server only using VESA graphics mode.

Many, many other older apps work with 10.6.8; you may stick with them. Say you need support for elderly hardware or need apps depending on PPC-code (works with rosetta).

Most of the IOS gimmicks introduced with Lion and ML won't work ;-).

Many annoyances brought with Lion/ML i.E. savestate-crap won't affect you.

Be happy with 10.6. It's sleek, slim, stable.
