NVIDIA GeForce GT 240M driver issue

Question

Hello,

I would greatly appreciate it if someone could direct me to where I might find a solution to the following issue.

After installing ML2 onto my Sony Vaio VPCL116FX, I noticed that some images and animations will flicker. I would assume it is because my GPU is not properly installed. However, I have been unable to locate the appropriate drivers and during installation the NVIDIA 10.8 Apple drivers caused boot issues. I have a NVIDIA GeForce GT240M installed.

I would greatly appreciate any advice. Thank you in advance for your time.

Best Regards,

Adam

You could get your Device ID with System Info, then try patching the following kexts:

  • NVDAGF100Hal.kext
  • NVDAGK100Hal.kext
  • NVDANV50Hal.kext

By looking at the kexts' Info.plist, however, I noticed that the method of inserting Device IDs is different than ATI (which I am proficient in), so if you can, it would be very helpful if you posted your Device IDs here.

Thanks! :)

Thank you so much for your reply :)

My device ID is: 0a34

VenID: 10de

Device: GT216[GeForce GT240M]

I'm going to take a look now at patching those files. Thank you again!

uh oh... :\ There is none of the kexts listed above in my extensions folder...

Are you looking in /Extra/Extensions or /System/Library/Extensions? You should be looking in the latter (S/L/E). ;)

Yes, it was not there. When I looked into it further, the nVidia graphics card appears to be working. However, I noticed that the System thought I was using an ATI Radeon graphics card. I fear something has gone terribly wrong...
